Hard Work? How to Determine If It’s Worth It.
Is it worth it? Are doing the things that are hard worth the blood, sweat, and tears it takes to bask in the moment of success? Everyone wants success, but does everyone love the feeling of being kicked down to shrunken reflections of themselves every time there is a rejection, a failure, or a loss? Everyone wants to be Steve Jobs, but don’t want to work like him. Everybody wants to be Warren Buffet, but don’t hustle like him. You can only measure your success by measuring your sacrifice.
Don’t Hustle Backwards
There are plenty people in life who work very hard, but have nothing to show for it. I am one of those people, and I am working to change that reality. I think the saying is worker smarter, not harder. It took me awhile to realize that I had to work smarter and harder if I wanted to make it, but what is “making it” really? In my opinion, that is for you to decide. You picture the life you want and you gauge how hard you need to work, what strategies you need to put in place, and how much confidence it’s going to take for you to accomplish your goals. After you have painted the picture of what you want versus what it’s going to take to get there – this is where you determine if it’s worth it.
Where Does your Mind Travel?
One way to determine if it’s worth is to see if it’s something you think about everyday. There is not a day that passes by where I don’t think about a better life for my family. This thought drives me to always be thinking of ways to improve myself for them.
Another way is to fast forward and see if staying on your current course would cause regret. If so, it would be worth it to say that you at least tried to get to where you want to be in life. There were so many days that I came home from work and I thought, could I do this for the rest of my life? The answer was hell no, and that was the ultimate kick in the pants to start making the changes necessary to improve my life and create goals that would catapult me into a more meaningful existence.
Anytime you work hard and push yourself, you get to know who you really are at your core. So if doing the things that are hard help introduce me to a better version of myself, I will choose that option each and every time.
